How many calories per day? How much calorie burn per workout?
I’m trying to find the key to my weight loss nightmare. I eat between 1,500 and 1,700 healthy calories per day. Swim three times per week (400+ calorie burn per session) and have aerobic workouts the other 3-4 days per week. Resistance exercise three days per week. I count myself very lucky to lose 1 pound per week. What’s the deal?

A question I would ask you is how long have you been doing the same routine? Even if you love doing the same thing all year, for at least 3 months of that year you should do something different. When you always do the same thing, your muscles adapt to it. Even if you do things in a different order that can help. It just sounds to me like you need to change up what you are doing. The resistance exercises you are doing can be changed up easily – use different weight machines, try different exercises (you can still work out the same muscles). Then try something different for aerobic exercise for at least one of the days – instead of the treadmill do the elliptical, bike, or row machine, or try a group exercise class. The only other suggestion I have is that if this continues, I would keep a food journal and write down everything. Maybe there are more calories in what you are eating than you realize (even if they are healthy ones– an example is peanut butter). If that doesn’t work, go get your thyroid checked out – there could be another issue here.
